About Wells House & Gardens
Wells House & Gardens boasts over 400 years of history and was built in the late 1600s by John Warren. John owned more than 6,000 acres of land in the area that was purchased on his death by the Doyne family. The Doyne Family went on to run the Wells Estate for over 260 years. During the 1800s, engaged renowned English architect Daniel Robertson completely redesigned the house and its surrounds as you see it today. Robertson is best known for his work in creating the stunning gardens at Powerscourt House and Johnstown castle. He was also prolific throughout the Southeast.
In 1965 Gerhard Rosler; a hard working and innovative German industrialist bought the house and lands and moved to Wells House with his family. The Wells Estate currently amounts to 450 acres (inc. 100 acres of Woodland). It is owned today by Uli and Sabine Rosler who also run a working farm on the grounds.
We also have a blog set up to give you a glimpse into Wells and how we started. We look into the people who made it what it is today and the people who are working to make it last for generations! This blog is not just about the real lives of people from Ireland and beyond. It shows our heritage, their pets, hobbies, talents and successes and even some secrets!
